about

Perfectinfection – Imperfection
A woozy infectious and weird sound radiates from Perfectinfection’s highly unique “Imperfection”. The hybrid-like quality of the album results in a surprisingly versatile number of twists and turns. Everything from lo-fi to hip-hop to electronica merge into a mind-melting whole. Vocals go for a disoriented dream-like state. Geometry informs much of the album for the way that melodies and rhythms fold into each other results in rather stunningly beautiful oddities. References abound throughout the album from unexpected places, as some of the ambient washes at times draw from early Warp Records ambient takes alongside electro workouts. By refusing to be pigeonholed Perfectinfection delivers something truly bizarre, with a highly experimental approach.
“Neverend” opens the album off on a reflective note, as the tender piano work perfectly complements the vocals. Truly hazy the blurred whirs of “Caffeine” chooses a Guided By Voices tact as the rhythms stumble about as if half-asleep. After the percussive open a wash of eerie synthesizers emerges on the cryptic scope of “Match It”. Layer upon layer is deftly brought into the hyperactive “All Natural”. Minimalism reigns supreme over the industrial hip-hop flavor of “Aliens Believe In Me” where he incorporates a playfulness into the sound. Ramshackle rhythms come together on the strange “Together Alone”. Grooves opt for a limber tact on the fiery flows of “Freestyle”. By far the highlight of the album comes from the Jerry Paper referencing interior monologues of “One Devil”. Neatly tying it all together is the warped finale of “Goodbye”.
Perfectinfection proves to be a true sculptor of surreal sound on “Imperfection”.
